We at the Alumni Association love bringing alumni together and back to the University. It’s what we do. So when more than 1300 alumni (most of them members of the Association) came home to our 38th Annual Go Blue Homecoming Tailgate, we couldn’t have been happier.
Marc, ’74, MD’78, and Kathy, ’77 DeMason came from North Carolina to enjoy the Maize and Blue. In addition to tailgating, they went on a tour of the Big House on Sunday with the Alumni Association. See all the benefits of becoming a member.
“This is our first trip back in seven years,” Marc said.
Jeff Piell is the president of the U of M Club of Chicago. He accepted an award for outstanding club programming earlier in the weekend.
“I’ve got a lot of friends that work with the Alumni Association. The club works very closely with the Association, so it’s been fun to reconnect with the people here.”
Shari Liss, MPH’79, came to the Homecoming Tailgate for the first time with the help of her local club.
“I got an email from the New Jersey alumni club saying that they had tickets to the game and the tailgate available…I’m glad because I’m having lots of fun,” Shari said. Her husband added: “We should have been doing this for years already!”
Bob McGrath, ’54, of Sesame Street fame took the stage with current members of the Glee Club.
The current president of the Men’s Glee Club is Patrick Pjesky. A classics major, Patrick works with the membership team here at the Alumni Association.
The Men’s Glee Club is the oldest student organization on campus. Patrick told us what it is like to be in charge of all that tradition.
The Michigan Marching Band
After the speakers, the Michigan Marching band got the people going before kickoff.
The Drum Major of the band, Jeffrey Okala, is also a member of the alumni family. In addition to his on-field duties, he works the front desk of the Alumni Center. We couldn’t be happier to have him.
We sat down for a Q&A with Jeff earlier this year. He had a pretty intense training regimen to become the drum major.
